Tokyo

Despite Japan being a huge dog loving nation, it’s not so easy to find pet friendly restaurants in Tokyo. If you search for pet friendly places on sites like Tabalog, you might find a lot. However, most will only allow you to sit outside on the terrace seats. Which is great during spring and autumn. But in the heat of summer and the cold of winter, it’s not ideal. So we want to try to find places that allow you to sit indoors with your furry friends as well.

My focus is around the Asakusa/Ueno areas as these are closer to my house. However, we go all around Tokyo as well as other areas in Japan now we have our car and can go on the subway in my stroller. So I’ll include any others that I find along the way too.

On this page, I’ll focus on restaurants that you can sit indoors with your pets. But I’ll be doing a separate page for those you can sit on the terrace with as well, of which there are a lot more.

Asakusa

Asakusa is home of the famous Senso-ji temple (which you can take your dog to with you). There’s hundreds of restaurants around this area but not so many you can take your dog with you too. So here’s my recommendations of pet friendly restaurants in Asakusa you can sit indoors;

Craft Burger Jiro is a small burger place right next to Kappabashi Street. A great choice of burgers, craft ales and wines as well as a dog menu, you can't go wrong here.

Check out my full review here which also has my Youtube video of my visit.
Dog Dept Cafe Sumida River is a dog friendly cafe overlooking the Sumida River not far from Asakusa station with amazing views of the Tokyo Skytree. They even boast their own dog menu and have a pet store on the first floor.

Check out my full review here and my Youtube video of my visit here.

Cafe Rest Cuzn Homeground is a funky late night bar in one of the shopping streets in Asakusa.

With a huge TV, they can play sports and also have special DJ nights as well as live music. I've been here many times for some late night drinking sessions.

Check out my full review here and my Youtube video here.

Yakiniku Chappie is a yakiniku restaurant in Asakusa. Dogs are very welcome indoors and they also have a dog menu. They also offer Korean dishes so there's a great variety of food. As well as an option for nomihodai (all you can drink). We'll definitely be back!

Shibuya

Shibuya is home of the famous Shibuya crossing and I love strolling around this area. There’s so many great places to see. Here’s my recommendations for pet friendly places in Shibuya area;

Teppanyaki Advance in Hiroo is a fine dining teppanyaki restaurant that allows pets to sit inside. We chose to sit at the counter, but they also have private rooms available.

Close to Hiroo metro station and with a dog menu, it's a great place to enjoy a special occasion with your loved ones.

Check out my full review here.
Rhythm Cafe in Shibuya is a great bar to chill out at. We had planned to sit outside but the owner said we were fine to sit inside which was great.

There was a great variety of drinks and we got some free popcorn as snacks. No food is served. Everyone was very friendly and they played some great music with a lot of 80's/90's. We were sad when we had to catch the last train home! Check out my full review here.

We stumbled upon Gyozarou Hanten when we had just about given up on finding a pet friendly place whilst trying to avoid the rain. In between Harajuku & Omotesando station it's a great location. I'm not sure it's entirely pet friendly, but they allowed me sit at the outer table which would usually be outside. However, as it was raining it was fully covered so it was like being indoors.

Great selection of gyoza and Chinese style food. They also offer a nomihodai for only ¥1,000 for 60 minutes!

Naka Meguro

Aloha Table is a small Hawaiian restaurant chain in Naka Meguro with a couple of branches.

Dogs are allowed in the outside area which is fully covered so can come even when it's raining.

Great place for a pit stop after walking down the river. Check out my full review here.

Any others?

If you have any recommendations for dog friendly bars and restaurants in Tokyo, or anywhere else to take your doggos, please let me know in the comments below. I continue to look for more to add to this list and look forward to hearing any more recommendations. If you want to venture further afield, you can check out some pet friendly restaurants in Yokohama over here. Or if you want to check out my full adventures head over to my Youtube page and see what I get up to in Japan.
