There’s pretty much no information online about whether it’s possible to take your dog on the AREX from Incheon to Seoul. I trawled the AREX website but couldn’t find anything that said whether it was possible or not. So we just took the risk when we arrived and had no problem at all.
Once we had passed through security and finished our quarantine papers, we followed the signs for the Airport railroad which was on the lower floor. It was very clearly signposted. At the bottom of the escalators there was the ticketing machines which were very simple to use. As we were going to Seoul station we chose the express train which doesn’t stop anywhere and only takes 45 minutes to get there. If you are getting off at any of the other stations you will need to get the all stop train.
Once we had our tickets we passed through the ticket gate and waited down at the tracks.

As we were not 100% sure if we could actually take a dog on the train I stayed inside my carrier for the most part. Although at the station while we were waiting for the train to arrive, I opened the front and sat quietly. I got lots of attention from people sitting waiting who wanted to pet me and say hello!

The ticket cost 9,000 KWN (approx US$6.80). If you choose the all stop train, it’s cheaper at only 4,150 KWN but takes longer.

On the Train
On the train itself, I stayed in my carrier the whole time. There was a decent enough amoutn of space at the seats for my carrier to fit. The conductor walked past many times and didn’t say anything, so I’m assuming that it must be OK!

We didn’t take the train back to the airport, rather we took an Uber as it was more convenient as we were staying in Gangnam for the end of our trip.
I wrote to the Arex Facebook page to get the official answer as to whether it’s officially allowed to take a dog on AREX. They responded and said, ‘Generally, it’s okay if it’s a small one. Kindly ensure that it won’t cause inconvenience to the other passengers’. So it’s not really anything concrete and suggests only smaller dogs are OK. But I had a great journey regardless! Let me know if you have managed to ride on the AREX in the comments below.
