Newcastle & North England Bars/Restaurants

Check out my list of pet friendly bars and restaurants in Newcastle and the North of England. My pawrents come from Newcastle which is in North East England. I was super lucky to get a chance to take a trip there with them at the end of 2021. Check out my Youtube of me on the flight over, it was such an incredible experience. I got to fly in the cabin on Singapore Airlines Business Class! You can also check out the details of how I got into the UK.

We did a few short trips whlist we were there and got to experience a great number of pet friendly places along the way. I list here a number of places that we visited both in Newcastle itself and nearby. I also got to go on loads of super walks.

The UK is actually a pretty pet friendly place. There are now many bars and restaurants that allow dogs inside. Usually, the rule is that dogs aren’t allowed on the carpeted areas. For places that act as a bar and restaurant, you may find that dogs are allowed in the bar area only. This is generally fine for us as the bar area is usually more relaxed and where we would prefer to sit anyway.

Newcastle City Centre

By The River Brew Co is in a beautiful spot right next to the Swing Bridge in Newcastle with great views looking up to the Tyne Bridge. It is a range of different storage containers converted into food & drinks outlets. You can order direct from your phone from a range of different stalls and they bring it straight to your table. Plenty of pooches here.

The Tyne is a well known live music bar in the Ouseburn end of Newcastle Quayside. We only sat outside in the outdoor area as it was too loud for my ears inside. But there were plenty other pooches here and lots of water bowls for me to drink from. Big wooden benches were perfect for lounging on and people watching from. They have electric heaters so even in the winter it didn't get too cold.

There are also some others that I’ve seen or been told are pet friendly but have not yet been to. I will be sure to try and check these out soon. These are Head of Steam, Crow’s Nest & Bridge Tavern.

Gosforth & Jesmond

The Piper Gosforth is a traditional British pub in the Fawdon area. Dogs are only allowed in the bar area. The Sunday Roasts here are delicious and the perfect place for hanging out with family and friends.
Gosforth Hotel is a pet friendly bar on Gosforth High Street. They very much welcome dogs of all sizes and I was very pleased I got to spend Christmas Day here for some drinks. I was able to join my pawrents at the table (sat on my coat) and sleep on the chairs. Everyone was very friendly and happy to see me.

Queen Vic on Gosforth High Street is very pet friendly allowing dogs in all areas of the bar. With great lunch time meal offers of 2 courses for £9.99 this is a great choice. The food was excellent so I was told. Quiz nights are also held weekly, and the staff are all super friendly and helpful. Check out my full review on my blog.
Millstone was my pawrents local bar when they lived in the UK. It's recently been refurbished and is really nice. They had a live singer when we went for Sunday lunch. It's great after a walk in Jesmond Dene.
Brandling Villa in South Gosforth is so pet friendly it even has it's own menu dedicated to dogs which includes doggy beer!
Lonsdale allows dogs in any area that is not carpeted. This is the perfect place to watch the football and is very popular with students. We chose to sit upstairs with good views of the TV. With great value bar food it's the perfect place to hang out with your humans. Right next to the Metro too so easy to get to!

Jam Jar Jesmond has a pet friendly area called The Snug. This is towards the back of the bar and is very private so it's ideal for those doggos (like myself) who can sometimes get a bitover excited ;') The staff are excellent and the service was fantastic!

I think most bars in Gosforth are pet friendly. I also saw that The County, Brandling Arms & Queen Victoria all allow pets in too, which I will have to try out one day soon.

Gateshead

Red Kite is located in Winlaton Mill, right next to the car park of Land of Oak & Iron on the Derwent Walk. This makes it the perfect pet friendly place to stop to rehydrate after a long walk. Dogs are only allowed in the bar area but you can also eat the restaurant menu here too so it's perfect.
Bay Horse Whickham is a great place to watch the football on a match day. It has a designated area where pets are allowed but we found that it was possible to sit in most places as long as the other customers were OK. Most people in there were big dog lovers and I got so much attention. Both food & drinks are reasonably priced and they serve a good range of traditional pub grub.
Bridle Path in Whickham has a sign saying that it is pet friendly as long as the owners are trained and well behaved! I haven't managed to go here yet but my pawrents have been and said it has a nice atmosphere. On a Sunday evening they have live music too!

Railway Tavern is another pet friendly bar in Rowlands Gill. The only bar in the village it is a micro bar serving lots of craft beers and ciders as well as a range of wines. Very popular with dog walkers, there's alwats a couple of regulars from Labradors, Beagle's and my arch nemises as you can see in this picture!

The Pack Horse in Burnopfield is another Greene King pub which is pet friendly. With free treats and water at the bar, what more could you ask for? Oh yes, fantastic food deals for the humans, which it has in abundance! Dogs are allowed in the bar area only and there's always lots of doggo friends in here.

Northumberland

Blue Bell Corbridge is the epitomy of a traditional English pub. It has a pool table, extremely friendly staff and the most delicious home cooked pub grub and is extremely dog friendly.

Amble Inn in Amble is great for a spot of lunch after a walk in Druridge Bay. Very pet friendly offering dog meals, free dog treats as well as doggy beer! What more could you ask for? The food for the humans was also incredibly delicious too :)
