We chose to stay at Mrs Swan which is a pet friendly hotel in Ranong. Ranong is not really a place that is high on the list of tourist places to visit. However, it was a great option as a stop off on our long drive from Hua Hin to Phuket. About 5 hours drive from Hua Hin we were ready for a break and Mrs Swan was the perfect place. We paid 2,187 baht for the night (approx £50) and the pet fee was a reasonable 300 baht per night (£6.85). This price also included breakfast.
The hotel was really pet friendly and you were allowed to go everywhere. The only place that was out of bounds was in the swimming pool which is fair enough.
The Room & Pet Amenities
The room was very nice. It was a small cabin type room in front of a big grassy area. Inside the room it was very modern and tasteful. They had prepared a bed for me along with bowls, poop bags and a bag of snacks. So even though I hate paying a pet fee, at least we got something for it. The bed for the humans was large and we had a view towards the sea. Although the rooms are quite back from the sea.
Location & Food
Mrs Swan is in a great location. At the hotel itself they have a small cafe where you can have your breakfast. It also serves great smoothies and it seems it’s quite popular with people to post pictures on Instagram. Next door to the hotel there is also a seafood restaurant which we ate at a couple of times which has great food options. It’s quite basic in decor with plastic seats but it has a lovely view over the sea towards Myanmar. Although it was a bit more expensive than I would expect for a non-touristy area.
Not far from the hotel you can drive to the hot spring area where we took a walk around. We also went to a small reservoir nearby which was nice also. Although there were a few soi dogs hanging around so I stayed in the car.
Breakfast was provided in the cafe. We chose to sit outside both mornings and we had both the Western option and the Thai options. Both were presented in tiffin boxes which was a nice touch. Decent enough with plenty to fill us up. Smoothies were charged extra as were any any additional hot drinks (1 was included per person).
Conclusion
We originally booked 1 night here but decided to add on another night as it was a nice place to relax. It was quiet, had nice views over to Myanmar and was very pet friendly. The food and drinks options were great so we really enjoyed our time here. It’s definitely a good option for a pet friendly Ranong hotel for future road trips to break up the journey.
