We found many pet friendly places in Hoi An during our month stay. Most places don’t advertise if they allow dogs or not. Generally, we found that most places were accepting if you asked. Some specified that you could only sit outside, but others welcomed you indoors as well. Vietnam itself isn’t as pet friendly as most places we’ve been. Almost everyone you speak to has a story of someone they know that’s been affected by a dog poisoning or dog snatching. So you have to be very careful. We were supposed to stay for over a month, but we decided to cut short our trip to just 3 weeks as we just didn’t feel comfortable.
That being said there are a lot of people who do have pet dogs. There are also many places that allow you to take your dog with you. Here are some of the places we found and enjoyed during our brief stay.
Bellerive Hotel
Bellerive is one of the few pet friendly hotels in Hoi An. We stayed here on two separate occasions on our trip to Vietnam. Located a bit out of the old town they have a free shuttle to take you in a few times a day. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant area next to the main buffet dining as well as in all common areas including the pool (but not inside). Best of all there’s no pet fees!

7 Bridges Brewing Co
We aren’t 100% sure the name of this bar but it was right on the front overlooking the riverside in the Old Town. They had adverts and signs for 7 Bridges Brewing Co and it is very easy to spot due to the cool windows you can sit at. Directly across the river from The Shamrock Irish Bar. We had some great cocktails and wine here, people watching galore.

3 Dragons Sports Bar
3 Dragons Sports bar is a great place to watch Premier League in Hoi An. An extra bonus is that it’s also a pet friendly sports bar. We came to watch the Newcastle games. We messaged in advance and were told it was no problem to come with a dog. Located in the Old Town it’s very convenient. There are a couple of dogs in the neighbouring shops who may come by to say hello but they were very friendly. A great bar that shows all of the Premier League games as well as plenty of other live sports. There was a good range of drinks and we had a couple of snacks also. There’s a lot of TV’s so if there are multiple games on, you can usually find your game. They also have aboard outside telling you what games they will be showing.

Hong Phuc 2
Hong Phuc 2 is a cute restaurant right in the middle of the old town overlooking the river. We were fortunate to grab some seats at the front. It was the perfect place for people watching, especially in the rain. We only had drinks here so can’t comment on the food, but it did serve a range of dishes including pizza from a wood fire pizza over. There is a rooftop also which would have great views over the river, but we preferred our front row people watching seats!

Mate Restaurant
Mate has a 5* rating out of over 2,000 reviews which is incredible. Located outside of Hoi An town, people seem to travel from the town to here just for the food and it’s no wonder as it’s incredible. The restaurant is quite small and nothing fancy but it doesn’t need to be as the food is so good. Every time we passed it was full. We were thankfully staying close to it so could easily walk from our hotel. We don’t normally go back to the same restaurants multiple times when travelling but the food was so good here we made an exception. They do local Vietnamese dishes as well as Western and Chinese dishes as well. Every dish we had here was delicious. The smoothies are also amazing. The couple that run the place are super friendly too. Huge brownie points for allowing dogs also and you can pay by card as well if you pay a 3% fee, which is very convenient.

An My Rest Stop
We stopped at An My Rest Stop whilst we were cycling around the vegetable village as it started to rain. We just ran in and grabbed a seat and no-one batted an eyelid. It seemed they had lots of activities here including boat rides, coffee classes and cooking classes. We had a smoothie each along with some Vietnamese snacks. We chose crispy shrimp wontons and pork with rice paper. Everything was delicious and cheap. Total bill was VND260,000 (approx £7.50). I even made some new friends.

Les Artisans Indochine
A small French wine bar and restaurant Les Artisans Indochine was a great pit stop for us for a few glasses of wine after a hard day. A large French wine selection was available and a varied menu. We had already eaten so didn’t dine, but the owner did give us a few slices of sausage and cheese which was a nice treat. A 10 minute drive outside of the Old Town, probably only worth coming to if you are staying nearby.

Conclusion
Whilst our time in Hoi An was cut short, we did enjoy a few different pet friendly places in Hoi An. We generally found that if you were polite and asked in advance, most places would let you at least sit on the terrace with your pet. There were also a few options that let you sit inside. If you are planning to travel to Hoi An with your pet, please be careful and keep an eye on them at all times. We certainly recommend to stay at Bellerive Hotel, which is a truly pet friendly hotel in Hoi An. It’s definitely worth staying out of town in order to stay here and have a great experience with your dog.
