The Niu Charly Frankfurt hotel is a dog friendly hotel located right next to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof station. We chose the hotel for the location to the station as we would be arriving and leaving by train. Only we didn’t realise our train departed from a different train station (Frankfurt Main-Sud), doh! We;d read some bad reviews on Tripadvisor about the hotel in advance so weren’t expecting too much to be honest!
Firstly, the hotel itself was absolutely great. The distance from the train station was great, it was less than a 5 minute walk. When we arrived, even though it was before check in time, we were allowed to the room early no additional charges. The room itself was great. Very modern and clean, plenty of space and nicely designed with quirky wall art.

Cost
We booked the room on hotels.com and paid €112.40 for 2 nights excluding breakfast. We thought this was a great price for the room itself and the hotel. It did say on hotels.com that there was a pet fee of €15 per dog per night which I thought was pretty ludicrous to be honest, given the price of the room itself.
Thankfully, we didn’t get charged it. I’m not sure if it’s because I was in my bag and they didn’t notice me, or the staff also realised it was a crazy price. Either way, we were pleased we didn’t pay it as there was literally nothing for that money.
Location
The biggest downside to this hotel was in fact the location which we had read about on Tripadvisor. Even during the day, it didn’t feel safe. There were so many homeless people dotted around begging for money. Even worse, we saw many people taking drugs and not just a bit of weed but full on hardcore smoking drugs off spoons.
Having said that, we were not once bothered or stopped by anyone on the way to or from the hotel. Everyone pretty much minded their own business and got on with their own things. So in that respect, it wasn’t so bad, although it just wasn’t pleasant at all.
Because of this we made sure we were back at the hotel before dark, just to be on the safe side. There was a bar and restaurant in the hotel next door that we went to one evening which was decent so there was somewhere you could go easily and safely.
Conclusion
Because of the location I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again. However the hotel itself was very nice and affordable. I guess it has to be to get anyone to stay. In total I’d give the hotel itself, location excluded a 21/25, let down only by the pet fee they had listed to be charged.
Room quality : 5/5 (had everything we needed and was clean and modern especially for the price)
Price per night : 5/5 (very well priced)
Breakfast : we didn’t have breakfast so it wasn’t rated
Pet friendly areas : 5/5 (allowed everywhere which is always a winner)
Pets allowed to be left unattended in the room : 5/5
Pet fee charged : 1/5 (even though we didn’t actually pay it, the price they want is ludicrous. I’m only giving the 1 mark because we didn’t actually pay it else it would have been a 0)
Check out some other pet friendly hotels I’ve been too on my other pages and see if there are any that you like the look of 🙂
Until next time, woof woof, Wylie x
