I got to stay at Baan KangMung for 3 nights before moving in to my new big house. I’d been looking forward to staying here as it looked really nice on the pictures. They had some good covid deals on and the more nights you stay the cheaper the nightly rate was. My pawrents weren’t sure how long the paperwork would take for the new house, so we booked 3 nights to start with. The staff were great and said if we extended we would get the lower rate based on the total nights actually stayed.
Pet Friendly Rooms
Dogs are allowed to stay in the Bamboo room, Garden Villas and Deluxe Rooms which are based next to reception and behind the beach. Or they can stay in the beachfront suite which is directly on the beach. They also have rooms overlooking the pool which has views of the sea too but dogs aren’t allowed in these ones.
We looked at the Beachfront Suite which was really nice but someone had already booked it for the nights we needed. So we decided to stay in the Bamboo Room on the first floor next to reception.
Pet Fee & Policy
Small dog fee is 300 baht per night. In total we paid 5,400 baht for 3 nights including pet fee. You don’t get anything for the pet fee, just to be allowed to stay. They do say it’s for extra cleaning, but when mamma said they didn’t need any cleaning at all, they didn’t reduce the fee. So in fact we got less cleaning (none at all) but still paid the fee.
In hindsight the beachfront suite probably wouldn’t have suited us as it wasn’t walled in so I would have needed to stay on my lead and not had so much freedom. So I think the Bamboo Room was the best choice for us.
There were no restrictions at all other than not being allowed at the swimming pool. But they had the biggest swimming pool right at the beach, the sea! So that didn’t bother me. I was allowed to be left alone in the room as long as I didn’t make much noise, which I never do. I happily enjoy my snoozes and my me time when the pawrents go out. Even when they leave me alone it’s never for long, usually just for them to go to the shop or get some food.
The Room
The room itself was decorated in a modern, clean fashion. It was located on the first floor next to reception in a block of 4 rooms. 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. The balcony looked out towards the sea, but there was a restaurant in front so didn’t have a sea view. There was a bamboo fence all around the balcony to hide the view of the building. Hence the name bamboo Room I guess.
There was another block of rooms to the right and then a short stroll towards the beach they had the pool rooms and the beachfront suite.
The bathroom was quite small with a shower and toilet. The sink was outside of the bathroom in the living area but this didn’t bother us. They had a big chaise lounge as well to sit and relax on. There was a balcony with a big round bathtub outside too. It had a small table and 2 chairs so you could sit out here and relax too.
The only downside to the room was that every now and again the restaurant across would fire up the extractors. This caused quite a bit of noise but not enough to cause us any problems.
Breakfast
You had to order breakfast the day before and choose a time for it to be served. It would be served in your room or on a table next to reception. We chose to have it served downstairs rather than in the room. All options were pretty much the same. A variation of egg with sausage and ham. It was served with a jug of juice, water and sachets of instant coffee that you could help yourself to hot water. They also served some fresh watermelon.
As the food was pre ordered, we felt that when we got to eat it the temperatrue was a bit luke warm as had sat waiting for us even though we were on time. The food itself was quite standard. It wasn’t worth a stand out mention but not inedible either. There’s not a lot you can do with eggs I guess! I enjoyed it very much and as always my puppy dog eyes made sure I got to taste it all.
Beach
As I mentioned the hotel is directly located on the beach. From our room we walked through the rest of the hotel and were on the beach within a minute. The stretch of beach the hotel is on is Khao Takiab beach. This is my favourite beach that I have been to so far. The sand is so soft and white. When the tide is out the beach is super wide. You can walk pretty far in very shallow water. The sand when the tide is out is also quite compacted so is easy to run and walk on. We saw a few doggos there on their walks and no soi dogs. I had plenty of space to run around.
After breakfast was the best time to go for a run/walk/swim as it was quietest so more space for me. At sunset time, the beach did get busier with more people running, walking and a few doggos going on their walkies too. My favourites were 2 Jack Russell brothers who I played with.
When the tide was out it gave me perfect opportunity to play roll around too. It was sooooo much fun!
Conclusion
Baan Kangmung is definitely the best hotel I have stayed in Hua Hin so far. Whilst they do have a pet fee, which I still don’t like, it is the lowest I’ve had to pay. Direct access to the beach and no restrictions made this place super pet friendly.
Overall I would give Baan Kangmung 26/30;
Room quality : 4/5 (let down by the noise from the restaurant)
Price per night : 5/5 (excellent value for money even after adding the pet fee)
Breakfast : 4/5 (prefer it to have been cooked to order so was hot when we got it)
Pet friendly areas : 4/5 (still the small restriction of not being allowed by the pool)
Pets allowed to be left unattended in the room : 5/5
Pet fee charged : Yes but only 300 baht : 4/5
I will definitely be returning here when I want to do a staycation next to the beach. Check out some other pet friendly hotels in Hua Hin you may wish to try here. Or places to go with your dog during your stay in Hua Hin.
