I got to celebrate my first UK Christmas this year. Whilst I never really planned to stay in the UK long enough to be here for Christmas, fate had different plans for me! I have to say I had a very good time. You can check out my Youtube video of my full day š
My pawrents had planned to have a big family dinner at a pub, unfortunately things didn’t work out that way! Both of my pawrents tested positive for covid-19 mid December. Mammy caught it later, so in total they did 16 days of isolation. On the last day my grandpa tested positive which meant he had to isolate over Christmas Day š
That wasn’t the only problem we encountered! On Christmas Eve we got a phone call from the pub to say that the chef, kitchen staff and manager had all tested positive for covid-19 too, so unfortunately they had to close!!! Oh no, what were we going to do?! The pub were actually very apologetic and gave us our full money back. On top of that, they gave us each a Ā£30 voucher to spend after Christmas. We were all pretty impressed with this, and whilst it was not ideal, there was nothing anyone could do about it. So big kudos to The Lonsdale for their great response to a rubbish situation.
We therefore had some last minute shopping to do!! Thankfully the supermarket we went to was very quiet which was surprising. They also had lots of stock of everything, including Christmas Crackers! So we managed to get everything we needed to cook our own dinner.
Christmas Morning
Mammy was up super early on Christmas morning. Usually we don’t really celebrate Christmas and we don’t do present swaps or anything. But mammy was awake early at 5am so she started to prepare the vegetables for our dinner. Of course, as soon as I hear anything to do with food I shot out of bed and was very happy to sit by her side in case she dropped anything on the floor.
By the time she had finished it was still early and it was still dark. So we decided to go on a drive and we headed to the iconic Angel of the North. For those that don’t know the Angel of the North, or Gateshead Angel, is a huge sculpture of an angel situated next to the A1 in Gateshead. It’s always the symbol of coming home if you are driving from anywhere in the South.
We got there just before sunrise and we were the only ones there. It was absolutely freezing! As it’s a wide open space the wind was howling and it was the coldest I have felt since I got to the UK. But it made for some pretty pictures and was nice to get out and about early.

Present Swap
Whilst my pawrents don’t really do presents, the rest of the family do. So we headed over to my auntie Lyndsay’s house to see my cousins Amy & Sam open their presents from Santa. We arrived after all the presents from Santa had been opened. But you’ll never guess what, they had some presents for me! Aren’t I so lucky?! My grandma and grandpa were also there so it was super cool and fun. I got spoilt rotten as you can see.

Christmas Walk
Once all of the presents were swapped we went for a walk with grandpa and grandma. There were lots of people out walking and everyone was in happy spirits. We walked around the bridlepath next to my pawrents house.
Of course, no Christmas Day would be complete without a trip to the pub. We arrived at The Gosforth Hotel at around 11am and we were the first ones there. Oooooopsie! Anyway, the pub was very pet friendly and I was allowed to sit with everyone and join in with the festivities. Before long, many other people turned up and we were all given free santa hats. It was a great atmosphere.

Christmas Dinner
Before long, it was time to head back home to cook our dinner. Mammy and daddy did the cooking and we got to have both chicken and pork. They don’t really like turkey so much so chose chicken instead. Grandpa was still quite poorly with covid-19 but he managed to get up and have his dinner with us which was nice. I was also very lucky that I got even more presents! I am such a lucky boy.

Post Dinner Snooze
After dinner, we all retreated to the sofas. We watched Jimmy Carr’s new comedy on Netflix which was a bit naughty but really funny. My pawrents love Jimmy Carr. Before long we were all stuffed and pooped and all had an early night which is pretty standard for a Christmas Day!

I really enjoyed my first UK Christmas. It may be a lot colder here than I am used to but everyone is always so happy at this time of year. I would love to come back for another UK Christmas in the future, hopefully once covid has finally disappeared and we can avoid all the problems that it is causing.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas wherever you may be in the world.
Woof woof, Wylie x
