Does a COVID test on dogs work? My pawrents both recently tested positive for COVID after doing a lateral flow test. First mammy felt a bit poorly so took a test and it was negative. Then daddy took one even though he felt totally fine and his was positive. So it got them thinking about how reliable these tests actually are.
The Test
As they were bored in their quarantine they thought they would try one out on me to see if it would be recognised. So they prepared one of the lateral flow tests that they had for me. Daddy had to hold me real tight so I didn’t squirm. mammy got the cotton swab and dabbed it around my nose. Of course, she didn’t put it up my nose, she just rubbed it around the wet on the end of it. I still squirmed a little bit. I don’t know how the humans put this right up their hooters!
Finally she got enough of the wet from my nose and proceeded to put it into the magic solution. She twirled the stick around in the liquid a few times and squeezed the bottom to make sure the sample was good. It was then time to shake the tube a few times to make sure it was fully mixed.
A few drops of the liquid sample onto the test kit later, and it was waiting time. The line slowly moved down towards the end of the test kit. No line came up on the t as it passed which bode well. Both mammy and daddy’s t line came up pink straight away when they tested positive.
The Result
Before long, the pink line arrived on the c line, to confirm my sample had been accepted! Another 10 minutes wait and no line appeared on the t line. I was clear, woohoooooo!
So it just goes to show that you are able to do a covid test on dogs and the sample works!
Check out my Youtube video for the full process of me doing my test. As I am negative I am now free to continue my adventures. You can check out some of the pet friendly places I have visited so far on my trip to the UK. Hopefully I will be able to visit a lot more before I leave. Let me know if you have any suggestions of where I can go next.
