I stayed at Motel One Glasgow for 2 nights in between Christmas and New Year. My pawrents have some friends in Scotland and it gave me another excuse to go back to my Scottish roots.
Location
Motel One is located right next to Glasgow Central Station. This makes it extremely convenient for anyone arriving by train, which we did. Unfortunately, our train stopped at Glasgow Queen Street so we had about a 10 minute walk, but it was still very convenient.
There are many bars and restaurants right next to the hotel and it’s only a few minutes walk to the main shopping areas of Glasgow. Directly across the road from the hotel is a Wetherspoon’s pub which is great for cheap breakfasts. Although dogs aren’t allowed in there.
Price
We paid £138 for 2 nights at Motel One which we found pretty good value for a central location. The hotel is modern, clean and well equipped. We booked on hotels.com as we enjoy collecting the free reward night after booking 10 nights through them. The price was the same on here as booking directly through the hotel website. So with the added benefit of the reward nights it was a no brainer. I always think booking direct should be cheaper than through a third party since they don’t need to pay them commission but lots won’t undercut the big agents as I guess they are their bread and butter.
We booked a room that we could cancel as there was lots of talk of covid restrictions changing after Christmas. There was no surcharge for a room that could be cancelled so this was a great added bonus. It was possible to cancel up to 6pm on the day of check in which is pretty amazing. We also didn’t need to pay up front, we only had to pay upon arrival at the hotel.
The Room
Considering the price we paid, the room was pretty spacious. There was a king sized bed along with a separate lounge chair and a small desk area where you could work or get ready. Everything in the room was very modern and it was tastefully decorated. The colour scheme was a turquoise and white theme. The room had all the amenities you could need including tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, safe etc.

Pet Policy
The hotel charged an additional £5 per night which is quite good for a pet fee. I still don’t agree with it, but at £5 per night you can hardly grumble too much! Dogs were allowed in all communal areas including the bar area and the reception. They are also allowed to be left in the room unaccompanied for up to 2 hours. This is very good as not all hotels allow this. It means that the humans can go for breakfast or dinner without being as restricted on where to go.
The hotel do ask you to sign a pet policy on arrival and to leave your phone number with them. This is in case the dog makes a lot of noise and you need to come back. Which is perfectly understandable. I am not sure how they police the 2 hour time limit, but I was only ever left for breakfast and dinner which was never more than 2 hours. Anyway I am very well behaved and wouldn’t cause any problems.
Bar/Restaurant
We had a couple of drinks at the bar during our stay. They have a good range of spirits and gins as well as the usual wines and beers. Prices are higher than a local bar as you would expect in a hotel. We paid about £30 for 6 drinks. We didn’t eat at the restaurant during our stay as we stayed out for most of the days and evenings. Our friends did order breakfast to the room on the first day which was £9 each for a continental breakfast excluding drinks. They did say they didn’t find this very good value for money. My pawrents ate at Westherspoons and it cost less than that for 2 English breakfasts including drinks. So it’s worth walking the short distance across the road.
Conclusion
I loved my stay at Motel One Glasgow. It is very pet friendly which is confirmed by the fact that there were lots of other doggos there during my stay. All the staff seem like dog lovers too. Their pet fee is low and allow you in all of the common areas as well as to stay in the room unaccompanied. The convenient location also adds another tick to the box. I am very much looking forward to trying other Motel One hotels in other parts of the UK.
I give Motel One Glasgow a total of 24/25.
Room quality : 5/5 (had everything we needed and was clean and modern)
Price per night : 5/5 (well priced with good cancellation policy)
Breakfast : we didn’t have it personally so haven’t rated it
Pet friendly areas : 5/5 (allowed in the bar & restuarant which is always a winner)
Pets allowed to be left unattended in the room : 5/5
Pet fee charged : 4/5 (I have to take one mark off just for charging it, but the fee is very low so the highest marks possible for a hotel that does charge)
