Just before the latest covid restrictions kicked in which has closed restaurants again, we went for lunch at Khao Tao Beach Lodge. Located directly on the beach in Khao Tao it’s a cosy, well decorated restaurant. We arrived about 2pm and they were setting up for a busy Friday evening.
The menu is mainly Western food with a strong focus on German/Austrian dishes. Only soft drinks available due to the covid restrictions. The food menu was written over 3 different chalkboards so we assume they change the dishes regularly. There was a great variety to choose from, mainly meat dishes so probably not so great if you are vegetarian or vegan. Thankfully my pawrents absolutely love meat so they had plenty of choice. It was difficult to decide what to have. The owner carefully explained every dish as there were some on there we had not heard of.
I sat on the floor and was a very good boy. There are a couple of dogs owned by the restaurant too who were sleeping. It was a hot day so everyone was snoozy.
The Food at Khao Tao Beach Lodge
The pawrents ordered the pork goulash (195 baht) with noodles (60 baht), along with the maultaschen (225 baht) with a side of spatzel (70 baht). We had never heard of Maultaschen before, so decided to give it a try as it sounded delicious.
We were not disappointed at all. Every dish was absolutely delicious. The only complaint we had was that we were too full to finish it all! The dishes were all very filling and there was no space at all left for dessert. As always, I got to try a little bit of each and I agree, the food was incredible.
I would definitely recommend the Khao Tao Beach Lodge to anyone wanting some filling, hearty food at good prices. We can’t wait until the restrictions are lifted so we can go on an evening. I think it will be a very nice atmosphere to enjoy a few beers or wine for the pawrents. Hopefully I can play with the restaurant doggos and make some new friends.
Hopefully I will see you there soon, woof woof, Wylie x
