We took a day trip to Krka waterfalls with a dog in early July. Unfortunately that coincided with the start of the school holidays and it was totally rammed!
We hired a car from Split which we picked up downtown and it took just over 1 hour to get to the park. It was a bit confusing where to park the car but we managed to park in the big car park near to the main entrance. The cost of the parking was 24 kuna (just over €3) and the toll fee each way was 33 kuna (about €4.50).
There wasn’t much of a queue to buy tickets and you can also buy them online in advance. The cost of the ticket to the park was 200 kuna each (about €27) and dogs were free. There was a sign saying that dogs should be kept on a leash and muzzled. I always stay on a leash anyway but never use a muzzle. No need to worry though as no-one checked and there were plenty other dogs there too with no muzzle.

We were told there was one boat per hour, but as it was really busy there would be more coming. That was a good job as there was a big queue waiting and when we got on the boat it was totally full. So thankfully no long wait time. The boat to the waterfall took about 30 minutes. We sat at the back of the boat outside so I could get the wind in my fur!

We also decided to choose one of the hottest ever days to visit. So that wasn’t a good choice either! When we got to the waterfalls, we realised just how hot it was and how crowded it was. We don’t really like to visit crowded places. That’s why we really loved our trip to Plitvice Lakes as it was really not crowded at all.
The Falls
The waterfall itself was really pretty and beautiful. But we just couldn’t get over how crowded it was. We did manage to take a few pictures without the crowds in, but in reality it was just too busy. I stayed in my K9 Sports Sack the whole time. It may be worthwhile the park putting a limit on the number of guests per day like some other parks. As we really just didn’t enjoy our time here, like we did at Plitvice.

In the end, after looking at the waterfalls, we decided to just head back to the boat. The heat coupled with the crowds meant this place wasn’t for us. I think we just picked the wrong day to go. We had a much longer wait for the boat back, about 40 minutes and again it was packed.
We stopped for lunch at Pomelo bistro at a lovely little coastal town called Zaboric. It was really nice and pretty and the food was great too. After that we just headed back to Split, driving down the coast before returning the rental car.
Visiting Krka waterfalls with a dog is super easy. But we recommend that you go out of peak season so that you can experience it without huge crowds. However, it was still a nice place to visit and it would be good to return at a quieter time.
You can check out where else I went on my Europe trip over here. I’ve had so much fun visiting all of these new places!
