Flying with a 10kg dog in cabin can be a tough task. ITA is an Italian airline that has quite a lot of domestic and international routes. They fly from Europe to the US and even direct to Tokyo! They allow a dog to fly in cabin if they are within 8kg. However, they allow an additional 2kg for the carrier and food. Giving a total allowance of 10kg!

They allow dogs and cats to travel in cabin if they are in a soft sided or semi rigid carrier although a soft sided carrier is recommended. The pet must stay in the carrier during embarking, disembarkation and during the entire flight.
The size for the bag should be 24cm in height, 40cm length and 20cm width. But they also say they are lenient by 2-4cm on height when using a soft sided carrier. Of course the animal must be able to sit down, lie down, stand up and turn comfortably in the bag too. They also allow up to 5 pets in the same bag as long as they are within the weight limit!
On domestic flights the charge is €60, within Europe & North Africa it’s €90 and the rest of the world is €210. It’s only €10 more to go in the hold. So it’s a bit more expensive than other airlines, but for us, with a direct route to Europe from Japan, it would still be an amazing option.
Conclusion
From the rules alone, they do seem like a pretty good option. If you want to fly with your dog in cabin up to 10kg I would definitely recommend checking out ITA.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried them out and what they were like. For more ideas on what it’s like to fly with a dog, check out my other blog posts here.

Do you know if ita allows pets in their business class or only in economy? Thanks
Yes they do allow in business class although as of 20th June they have changed their policy. Now they allow up to 12kg on domestic flights (10kg + 2kg bag) but the dog must be able to sit up in the bag without touching the top 😳 I’m not sure how strict they are though!
