I stayed at Ibis Koln Centrum for 2 nights on my trip around Europe. From the main train station, you need to switch to the Metro and take it 5 stops to Barbarossaplatz. From there the hotel is just a couple of minutes walk.
We arrived at the hotel at about 12:30 and were thankful that we were allowed to check in straight away despite it being before check in time. We booked the room via hotels.com and it cost €127.60 for 2 nights which included a pet fee of €8 per night. On arrival we also had to pay city tax of €5.58. The price of the room included daily breakfast for 2 so it was very well priced.
This Ibis is rated as a 2* but actually it was much nicer than other Ibis hotels we have stayed at. Either it was a new hotel or had recently been refuribished. All common areas and the rooms were decorated nicely and modern. Everywhere was super clean too. It was definitely the nicest Ibis we have stayed at.

All of the staff were really friendly and helpful and gave us tips on where to go. It was about a 15 minute walk into the old town. You can walk along the river, visit the Cathedral and visit some of Cologne’s famous Brauhaus’. Just around the corner from the hotel there are also plenty of Brauhaus’, restaurants and shops as well, so you don’t have to walk all the way into the Old Town.
Breakfast
Breakfast was pretty good too for it to be included in the price. It was primarily a continental style with more croissants, breads and meats rather than hot food. But it did the job for us who don’t really like to eat too much. I didn’t go down for breakfast as I stayed in the room with my kibbles. Although I don’t think there were any restrictions on me being allowed in the breakfast room.
Conclusion
I’d definitely recommend the Ibis Koln Centrum as a pet friendly hotel. I’d give a total of 29/30. It’s a budget hotel so don’t expect fancy luxuries, but for the price range it’s definitely a great option.
Room quality : 5/5 (had everything we needed and was clean and modern especially for the price)
Price per night : 5/5 (very well priced for city centre location)
Breakfast : 5/5 (for us it was fine although others with big appetites or want a hot breakfast may be disappointed)
Pet friendly areas : 5/5 (allowed everywhere which is always a winner)
Pets allowed to be left unattended in the room : 5/5
Pet fee charged : 4/5 (I have to take one mark off for charging it, but the fee is low so the highest marks possible for a hotel that does charge)
