I stayed at another dog friendly Air BnB during my stay in Fort Augustus. Dog friendly Air BnB’s are often easier to find than hotels and usually don’t come with additional dog charges. Most often the dog fee is already built into the price so you don’t need to worry about hidden charges.
This one did say they could provide a dog bed on request which would be charged at £10 per night. However, I always travel with my own bed so I didn’t need this extra.

Check In
There was self check in which we much prefer. We were given a code for the main door and then there was a key box at the flat door itself. We got the code for this which opened the box with the flat key inside. So we could let ourselves in at any time we wanted.
Check in time was advertised at 4pm, which we felt was pretty late. Once we booked we got a message to say that it was actually 4.30pm which was even later. Check out was 10am so there was quite a long time to allow for cleaning. Appreciate there’s 7 flats in total but not everyone will be checking in and out on the same day. So we felt that the check in and out times let the place down a bit.
Location
The location of the Air BnB couldn’t have been any better. The flat was located directly above the Caledonian Canal Centre which is pretty much the tourist information centre for the area. This means it’s right in the heart of Fort Augustus. Everything was on the doorstep. There were 2 bars, The Lock Inn & The Bothy, a Chinese restaurant as well as a couple of other eateries we didn’t try.
The only issue we had with the location was for breakfast. The Air BnB mentions that there is a grab and go cafe downstairs, but unfortunately this was closed both days we were there. There is a cafe in the Caledonian Canal Centre but this didn’t serve any breakfast items. The 2 bars and other eateries were also closed in the morning. We ended up going to Londis store and were super happy to find they had a butty stand in the back! So our bellies were filled with bacon and sausage butties, yum yum 🙂
The Flat
The room itself was pretty compact but had everything you could need for a couple nights stay. The bed was really comfortable, even though I had my own I always have to test out the big bed too! There were a couple of nooks and crannies I found to hide in too.

The only downside we had was that the TV was not connected to the internet. So even though it was a Smart TV and had Netflix installed, we weren’t able to watch it. In the end we just connected our laptop and watched it that way. Usually we don’t watch TV in a hotel rom, but everything was closed quite early in the town so it kept us occupied. It was possible to watch local TV so it wasn’t all bad if you don’t have your own laptop.
The room was clean and had everything we needed so it gets a paws up from me.
Conclusion
I can’t give the place a full 10/10 as there were a couple of things that let it down. Firstly the check in/check out times. Secondly the inability to connect the TV to Netflix. Thirdly, to contact anyone with a question they only reply during office hours of 9pm to 5pm. So given you can’t check in until 4.30pm it doesn’t really give you much chance to get any issues resolved.
These are quite minor things so in total I will give a 9/10.
