We did the Derwentwater dog walk which is a 10 mile walk around Derwentwater in Keswick. The scenery around the lake is very beautiful. We did the walk in November so the weather was a bit chilly. However, once you started walking you didn’t feel the cold at all. We even saw some ladies swimming in the lake!
We started the walk from the Keswick launch after walking down from the town centre. The Keswick Launch is where the boat leaves for the trip around the lake. As it was out of season on top of covid restrictions, the boat was only running a couple of times a day.
The Route
From the launch area, we walked for about 5 miles before coming to Mary Mount. Here we stopped for a drink to take a break. About 10 minutes before we got here I started to slow down a bit. So I ended up hopping into my trusty K9 Sports Sack for a short while to rest my weary paws. I have written about this bag so many times, and it never disappoints. It is so lightweight but so sturdy it’s absolutely perfect for when I get a bit weary. I always get so much attention in it, it’s a real crowd pleaser!

After a short stop at Mary Mount, we were soon back on our way. After my rest, I was back in full form. I managed the rest of the walk without needing to go back in my bag. The second half was much more interesting with a lot more places to stop for scenic photos. This helped to keep me more intrigued so I didn’t have time to think about my weary paws.

We were very lucky that it didn’t rain at all throughout the walk. It was a bit windy and cold but once we were walking we didn’t feel cold at all. We had one final stop close to the town at the Lingholm Kitchen & Walled Garden in the Lingholm Estate. Here we had a late lunch of bacon sarnies and beer (I had water of course and some scraps of bacon). It was so cool here, I even got to see some awesome Alpaca’s! You could walk around with them but I wasn’t allowed of course as I would no doubt be a bit naughty!
As we approached Keswick town it did start to rain lightly, so we had to hurry a bit towards the end. We made it just in time to avoid getting soaked thankfully.
Conclusion
I had a fantastic day and was very impressed that I made it as far as I did. I only went in my bag for about 10 – 15 minutes of the whole journey. Usually when I end up walking on road I get super bored so that’s when I want to go in the bag. But when I am in the dirt, I have lots to smell and keep me entertained so I can easily plough on. Note to the humans, keep me in the muddy dirt tracks please!
Check out my Youtube video for more footage of the walk and to see how much I enjoyed it.
