Yes you can take your dog on the train in Belgium! We found that the trains in Belgium were super pet friendly. On the Belgian Train website it states that if your dog is kept within a carrier measuring less than 30x55x30cm then it will be free of charge. If your dog is bigger than that or not in a carrier then there is a pet supplement of €3 each way. It also states that dogs are not allowed to sit on the seats or on the tables.
We travelled on a number of trains during our stay in Belgium. We took trains on day trips to Antwerp, Bruges & Anderlecht as well as taking the metro to the main train stations. For each train journey we used either our K9 Sports Sack or our Kurgo backpack.
However, noone ever checked the size at all. In fact noone even batted an eyelid that we were on the train with a dog. Other than getting lots of people looking and laughing at me in my bag. I always get so much attention when I am in my dog bags. It seems not many people see them around! But in terms of officials checking, we had no issues at all. In fact, they didn’t even check the humans tickets ever other than when we left Brussels to head to Germany.
As for sitting on the seats, as I was inside my bag I didn’t think this would be a problem. Even so, my humans put down my Scoot blanket onto the seat before putting me on top of the blanket. All the time staying within my bag. But as I already said, noone checked anything at all. And we had no complaints from anyone. The trains were generally not that busy so we always had plenty of space.

Conclusion
So all in all, I would say that trains in Belgium are super pet friendly and it’s certainly allowed for you to take your dog on the train in Belgium. Even if I was bigger and had to pay €3 it would definitely be worth it.
